Wallet Friendly Budget Part 2

September 15 by Mary Leave a Comment

In the preceding article we considered some pointers to reduce the expenses for your African inspired wedding. We considered some things that you can do by yourself and ways to get affordable décor. We will continue from where we left off.

More on décor:

  • When picking flowers, remember to pick those whose seasons coincide with your wedding date. Getting those that are out of season can be quite costly. I wrote a detailed article about décor earlier on –you can go through it to see what kinds of flowers are best for an African wedding.
  • Besides, there are other options instead of flowers. There are quite a variety of decorative ornaments you can hire that are common to most, if not all, African cultures.
  • In addition, you can include the African musical instruments. With how unique they look, they would be quite the sight. For example, the tube fiddle and the bow harp.
  • Also, although it is not necessarily décor, asking guests to come in African garb is a good idea. With the fact that it is unlikely for all of them to wear the same costumes and colors, the outcome will be exotic and beautiful.

Attire for the wedding entourage:

  • You are probably interested in wearing an African traditional
gown –whether it is an omushanana used by the Rwandese or leso (used by a number of tribes in Kenya and elsewhere). Or maybe you were – until you found out how costly it can be.
  • Do you know someone who comes from the area whose WALLET FRIENDLY BUDGETtraditional attire you would like? Why not ask how much the gowns cost over there – it is highly likely that they are much cheaper in the countries of origin. Or you could get the material from where the material is cheaper and have it made to suit your tastes.
  • Or you could also wear a western gown with ornaments that are native to the culture that is your inspiration. For example the necklaces the Maasai from Kenya and the Karamojong from Uganda use could work with a strapless gown.
  • You could also get a western gown and make some adjustments to it, like adding a sash or belt, redoing the hemline or the corset with cloth native to the tribe of your selection. The Ghanaians have Kente cloth, a number of the Bantu tribes use bark cloth, or you could one of African print or animal print.
  • Your choice of hairstyle need not be affected by what gown you are wearing. Whether the gown is African or not, you need not worry much. Most of you, anyway. If you are of Nigerian origin, for example, you might have to keep the headdress in mind as you pick a hairstyle.

The budget is one of the setbacks when planning a wedding: some of the things you want could be dropped just because it is unaffordable for you. But if you use some of the suggestions here, you could be able to get the wedding you want, which is what you are likely to be after.
