5 Designs for African Wedding Inspiration

December 5 by Elizabeth Leave a Comment

The recent bridal showcase show in New York City boasted some of the most beautiful wedding inspiration and bridal wear the stage has seen this year. Circle of Sisters and WBLS Radio held the annual showcase of the designs.

Here are the top Tekay trends that inspired me, to inspire you!

1.    Queen of the Brides

Tekay Designs presented the launch of their new matriarchal range; “Queen of the Brides”. Gowns worn by the women rulers of ancient civilizations inspired the designs. The bridal attire worn by the runway models exuded cultural roots and the majesty of ancient African thrones.

The models and the designer’s creations on the runway embodied the powerful rulers of old. The models represented Queen Sheba of Ethiopia, Queen Mumtaz Mahal of India, and Egyptian queens Cleopatra, Nefertiti, Tiye, Ankhesenamun, and Hatshepsut.

Each fashion outfit has an embellishment that symbolizes an ancient culture or has some historic value. This was incorporated into the outfit with either necklace, bracelet, veil or headpiece.

2. Mystical Veils

Veils were birthed into the world by culture around the 13th century BC. They have since been ingrained into the wedding circle of tradition. Ancient Egyptian queens wore a variety of symbolic crowns and headpieces, linking with their sacred beliefs. Today, the veil is a symbol of bridal grace and purity for some, and a wedding fashion accessory that enhances your fashion repertoire.

When you slip on the veil, you may remember the sacred honor it holds for many ancient cultures.

3. Sacred Headpieces

One of the most fascinating head turners was one of Tekay’s designs; a metallic headpiece, with golden scales and beads. The designers says it is a replica of the headdresses worn by Cleopatra, ancient Queen of Egypt.

The headpiece seemed to shimmy down the runway, with the gold, silver and rhinestone embellishments dancing in the light. In the center, the crystal applique adds a hint of ceremonial hues to the outfit.

4. Hand stitched crystal trimmed gown

One of the gowns Tekay designed is a symbolic replica of Queen Nefertiti and has a hand stitched crystal trimming with embellishments. United with a statement pearl, crystal and hand blown faceted glass beaded necklace, the completed outfit looked like a page turned in the book of history. The atmosphere created by these dresses and accessories was regal, awe-inspiring and rings a primordial reminder deep within each woman.

5. Maasai Inspiration

The noble and majestic culture in Kenya is a warrior tribe of nomadic roots and offer huge amounts of wedding inspiration. The women are often seen decorated with elaborate and colorful beadworks, necklaces and earings. Tekay drew on this inspiration in the flower girl dresses. The embroidered colors are a representation of the ethnic bridal gowns.
